Understanding Self & Others – Insights into Human Behaviour

This workshop provides a thorough analysis into understanding self and others using a behavioural psychometric tool called DiSC. It underpins the principles of workplace communication and relationship management; key ingredients for managing staff, subcontractors and clients.

Managing Stress & Sharpening the Saw

Stress in the Construction industry is no stranger and it’s a significant factor for all. The workshop provides practical strategies to identify and combat stress. Stephen Covey (7 Habits of Highly Effective People) talks about the analogy of Sharpening the Saw which means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have--you.

Building and Managing a High Performance Team

Team work is essential for success and this workshop focusses on the key attributes needed by leaders to help individuals transition from groups of people into a harmonised and effective team.

Managing Employee Performance

Inherit within all industries and seemingly more so within the Construction industry is dealing with staff challenges and maximising the performance output of direct reports. This workshop takes a ‘flip’ perspective where positive performance is analysed to help combat poor performance.

Managing Workplace Conflict

Workplace conflict is difficult to manage and even more difficult to turn into a positive component of work and that’s the core purpose within this workshop, to demonstrate how to recognise conflict early and how to manage it for positive outcomes.

Understanding Emotional Awareness

The ability to recognise one’s own emotions and the emotional state of those around you is the first step to being a great employee and leader. Knowing how to manage your emotions and assist those around you in this skill is the ultimate step.

Mate to Manager

One of the most difficult transitions in a working career is to transition from being a mate to being a manager. Leadership principles will be discussed with practical application to everyday work.

Certificate 4 and Diploma in Leadership & Management

These comprehensive Leadership development programs are nationally accredited and formally assessed. Comprising of 12 units of competency which can be tailored to operational needs, the program is delivery across a 12 month period.

Project Start Up / Team Alignment

With over 15 years practical experience working in senior leadership roles in various Civil, Mining & Construction companies, most recently Watpac and Laing O’Rourke, I appreciate and understand the challenges to get all stakeholders on the same page and agreeing on how the project will be delivered.

The Project Start Up and Team Alignment sessions are designed with a clear purpose and objective – ensure all players understand what it takes to make each other successful. Individual success over collective success is not success at all.

The sessions involve insights into default human behaviours and highlights the importance of trust. Unfortunately, we are taught from a very young age, not to be too trusting, especially with people we do not know well (Stranger Danger ring a bell?).

Getting the right attendance list is critical for these sessions. Key players include the Managing Contractor, the Client and the Clients Rep (Superintendent), all the major subcontractors and the consultants. Yes, it can be quite the entourage but if you are serious about wanting to deliver a complex project, which always has tight timelines and even tighter budgets (for all) then leaving someone out can be very risky.

The output is a clearly defined Team Charter (agreed rules on how everyone will play nice especially when things go array). And because it’s developed from the input of all participants, from open, transparent and frank conversations which harness the knowledge of past experiences, it’s ability to hold up when things get tough is its greatest value.
